NOV 80-UE drawworks

NOV / National · Listed under Drawworks

What it does

The 80-UE is a 1,000 horsepower chain-drive drawworks. UE means unitized electric with band brakes: the transmission, drum, and brakes are one skid rather than a separate compound you have to line up on location.

Which rig it fits

It fits a land rig a step above a 610-E and short of a 1,500 horsepower 110. With 8 lines in low gear the catalog lists 207.5 tons. With 10 lines in that same gear it lists 250 tons. High gear on 8 lines drops to 42.5 tons, which is a tripping speed, not a pulling capacity.

How to tell it apart

The 610-E is 750 horsepower and is not unitized in the same way. The 110-UE is 1,500 horsepower and still has band brakes. The 110-UDBE shares the 110 hook-load table but uses a disc brake. An eddy-current auxiliary brake is common on this family and is a separate machine from the band brake.

What to check before you buy

Look at the bands, the drum grooving, and whether the auxiliary brake is bolted on or was left on the old rig. DC motors are part of the value. A bare mechanical skid is not the same listing as a skid with motors.

Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Drawworks is where that kind of equipment is listed.
