NOV 2040-UDBE drawworks
What it does
The 2040-UDBE is the 4,000 horsepower machine at the top of NOV’s conventional chain-drive table. A 2040-UDBEL is the long-drum version. Both hoist the block. The long drum changes how the drill line spools. It does not change the published hook-load table.
Which rig it fits
This belongs on a big land rig or a heavy platform package, and only under a mast and drill line rated for the load. With 12 lines in low gear the catalog lists 1,017 tons. Fourteen lines is 1,144.5 tons. High gear on 12 lines is 203.5 tons. If the mast is a 500-ton or 750-ton mast, this drawworks is more hoist than the derrick can use.
How to tell it apart
The 1625-UDBE is 3,000 horsepower. The 2040 is 4,000. Within the 2040s, UDBE and UDBEL share the hook-load table and differ by drum length. Measure the drum. Do not rely on the listing title to say “long.”
What to check before you buy
Confirm drum length, motor count, and brake condition. Then put the hook-load number next to the mast rating and the drill-line size. The drawworks can be rated for a load the rest of the rig is not.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Drawworks is where that kind of equipment is listed.
