NOV TDX-1500 top drive
What it does
The TDX-1500 is NOV’s 1,500-ton top drive in this family. Motors and torque match the TDX-1250: two 1,340 horsepower motors and 105,000 ft-lb continuous. The difference you pay for is hoisting capacity, height, and a pipe handler rated with a 20,000 psi IBOP.
Which rig it fits
It fits a derrick built for 1,500 tons. Published weight is 95,000 pounds and working height is 29 feet. Links are published through 1,500 tons. A land mast built for a 500-ton TDS-11 cannot take the load, the height, or the links. Cooling is water and an external HPU is required.
How to tell it apart
The TDX-1250 has the same torque and a 1,250-ton rating, a PH-150, and a 15,000 psi IBOP. The 1500 uses a PH-CLK and a 20,000 psi IBOP. If a listing says TDX and a tonnage, trust the tonnage and the handler model over a photo of a similar silver housing.
What to check before you buy
This purchase is a derrick decision first. Confirm the mast rating, the link rating, the PH-CLK, the 20,000 psi IBOP, and that cooling and hydraulics are included. The washpipe stays at 7,500 psi even though the IBOP is higher.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Top Drives is where that kind of equipment is listed.
