NOV TDS-10SH top drive
What it does
The TDS-10SH is a compact top drive for smaller land rigs. One 400 horsepower AC motor turns the string through a 13.1:1 gear ratio. Continuous torque is 22,288 ft-lb. Hoisting is 250 tons, which is the load path the links and the mast have to share.
Which rig it fits
It is meant for a derrick that cannot take a TDS-11. Published weight is 18,000 pounds and working height is 15.3 feet. The pipe handler is a PH-55, and the drill-pipe range is 2⅞ to 5 inches. Elevator links are 250-ton. It is not listed as ready for a casing-running tool. A rig that drills with 5½-inch drill pipe and a 500-ton mast is outside this drive.
How to tell it apart
A TDS-11SA is 500 tons, two motors, and a PH-75 that will handle up to 6⅝-inch drill pipe. The 10SH is one motor, 250 tons, and a smaller pipe handler. The model numbers sit next to each other. The rigs do not.
What to check before you buy
Match the 250-ton rating to the mast and the links, and match the PH-55 to the pipe on the rack. Connection OD only goes to 6⅝ inches. If the iron roughneck and the pipe are built around larger tool joints, this drive will not make them up.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Top Drives is where that kind of equipment is listed.
