NOV TDX-1000 top drive
What it does
The TDX-1000 is a 1,000-ton electric top drive. Two 1,150 horsepower motors produce 91,000 ft-lb of continuous torque. The pipe handler is a PH-203. This is a derrick-scale drive, not a portable land unit you set inside a 500-ton mast.
Which rig it fits
The derrick, the block, and the links have to be 1,000-ton equipment. Published weight is 85,000 pounds and working height is 22 feet. Cooling is water, and an external hydraulic power unit is required. Elevator links are published through 1,000 tons. A land rig built around a TDS-11 does not have the load path or the house for this drive.
How to tell it apart
The TDX-1250 and TDX-1500 keep climbing in hoisting capacity. Torque on the 1000 is 91,000 ft-lb. The 1250 and 1500 are published at 105,000 ft-lb. A TDS-8SA is the 750-ton drive below this one, with a single motor and a PH-100.
What to check before you buy
Price the derrick work with the drive. Confirm water cooling, the external HPU, the PH-203, and a 15,000 psi IBOP. The washpipe is 7,500 psi. Without the cooling and hydraulic package, the drive in the photo is not a working system.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Top Drives is where that kind of equipment is listed.
