Cameron DL annular BOP
What it does
An annular closes a reinforced packer around whatever pipe is in the hole, or on open hole. The DL is Cameron’s compact high-pressure annular. Closing does not depend on well pressure to help the packer, and SLB says you do not have to cut closing pressure when the annular shuts on larger pipe. That is the practical difference from an annular that needs wellbore assist.
Which rig it fits
It is used on land stacks and on surface and subsea offshore stacks, in a shorter height than a comparable tall annular. Published bores run from 7 1/16 to 21¼ inches, and working pressure from 2,000 to 10,000 psi. The bore and pressure have to match the ram body it sits on. A 13⅝-inch 5,000 psi annular will not bolt to a 13⅝-inch 10,000 psi ram flange.
How to tell it apart
A T-90 is the short annular for tight stack height, with a shorter list of sizes and no 15,000 psi rating. The DL is the higher-pressure compact annular, in single or dual bodies, with Cameron’s CAMULAR packer. A ram preventer under either one closes on a specific ram. The annular is the preventer that covers a range of diameters.
What to check before you buy
Read bore and working pressure, and look at the packer. A packer that is cut or hardened is the part you will replace first. Ask whether the closing unit was sized for this annular’s volume. A one-piece split lock ring holds the top, which is how the packer comes out. Confirm that ring is intact.
