NOV ST-100 iron roughneck
What it does
The ST-100 is a pedestal iron roughneck one step above the ST-80C. Makeup is 100,000 ft-lb. Breakout is 120,000 ft-lb. The number in the model tracks makeup, not breakout. It still spins the connection first, then wrenches it.
Which rig it fits
Use it on a land floor that needs more makeup than an 80-class wrench and still wants a pedestal rather than a track. Tool-joint range on NOV’s current table is 4 to 9¾ inches. Published weight is about 9,400 pounds. The rig needs a floor socket and hydraulics in the same range as the ST-80C: about 28 gallons per minute at 2,100 psi to start.
How to tell it apart
An ST-80C² stops at 60,000 ft-lb makeup and 80,000 ft-lb breakout. An AR/ST-160 goes to 140,000 makeup and 160,000 breakout, and it can be track-mounted. The ST-100 stays on a pedestal. Slew can be manual or powered, so two ST-100s are not the same controls package.
What to check before you buy
Ask whether slew is manual or powered, and whether a remote console is included. Confirm the tool joints you run sit inside 4 to 9¾ inches. A pedestal machine with no socket in the floor is a wrench you cannot swing to the pipe.
