NOV FD-1600 mud pump
What it does
The FD-1600 is the 1,600 horsepower pump in the FD triplex family. NOV’s current product page lists a maximum liner and stroke of 7 by 12 inches. On the rig it does the same work as any other 1,600 horsepower triplex: it supplies the circulating rate and pressure the well program calls for.
Which rig it fits
Treat it as a land-rig 1,600 horsepower pump, in the same class as a 12-P-160 or an FB-1600. Whether it bolts into a particular pump house depends on the skid length, the motor arrangement, and the discharge piping, not on the horsepower number alone.
How to tell it apart
The current liner-and-stroke pair matches the FB-1600 and FC-1600 catalog figures, and it does not match a 12-P-160. Older FD outline drawings have used other liner diameters and stroke lengths. If you are buying liners, or comparing a listing with an FB-1600, match the power-end casting and the fluid-end model. The “1600” in the name is not enough.
What to check before you buy
Get the stroke off the nameplate or the outline drawing before you order expendables. Ask which fluid end is installed and what pressure it is rated for. A pump sold as a bare FD-1600 may not include the motors that a listing photo makes it look complete.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Mud Pumps is where that kind of equipment is listed.
