NOV FB-1600 mud pump
What it does
The FB-1600 is a 1,600 horsepower triplex mud pump. NOV rates it at 1,600 horsepower at 120 strokes per minute. The maximum liner and stroke is 7 by 12 inches, and the gear ratio is 4.31:1. Discharge is a 5-inch API flange published at 7,500 psi.
Which rig it fits
It belongs on a land rig that circulates with 1,600 horsepower pumps, usually two or three of them. The 7,500 psi discharge is the reason people shop for an F-series pump instead of a standard 5,000 psi 12-P-160 fluid end. Confirm the discharge iron and the relief valve on the rig are rated with the pump.
How to tell it apart
The FC-1600 is published with the same horsepower, liner, stroke, and gear ratio. The suffix is the frame generation, so power-end and fluid-end parts are not automatically interchangeable. A 12-P-160 is also 1,600 horsepower, with a longer stroke identity (12 inches), a larger maximum liner (7¼ inches), and a different gear ratio. Do not buy FB expendables for a 12-P-160.
What to check before you buy
Confirm the listing is an FB and not an FC, and that the fluid end is the 7,500 psi module you expect. Valve pots are valve-over-valve API No. 7, with a metal-to-metal liner lock. Ask whether the motors and the belt or chain drive are included.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Mud Pumps is where that kind of equipment is listed.
