NOV FD-1000 mud pump
What it does
The FD-1000 is a 1,000 horsepower triplex mud pump from the Continental-Emsco FD line, now sold under NOV. It circulates drilling fluid the same way a 12-P-160 does, at a lower horsepower. NOV’s current page rates it at 1,000 horsepower at 140 strokes per minute, with a maximum liner and stroke of 6¾ by 10 inches.
Which rig it fits
This is a pump for a smaller land rig or a workover package that does not need 1,600 horsepower of circulation. One or two of them is a typical setup. It will not substitute for a 12-P-160 on a rig whose pumps, motors, and discharge iron are built for 1,600 horsepower and a 12-inch stroke.
How to tell it apart
The FD family shares a naming pattern, and the number is the horsepower class: FD-1000 is 1,000, FD-1600 is 1,600. Older FD manuals describe liner and stroke pairs that do not always match the current product page. The nameplate and the stroke length are what decide whether liners from another FD pump will fit.
What to check before you buy
Match the stroke and the maximum liner to the expendables you already own before you treat two FD pumps as the same. Ask for the fluid-end pressure rating. Horsepower alone does not tell you if the pump can hold the pressure on the well.
Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Mud Pumps is where that kind of equipment is listed.
