Brandt DG-10 mud degasser

NOV / Brandt · Listed under Mud Systems & Tanks

What it does

A degasser pulls entrained gas out of the mud after the shakers and before the centrifugal pumps. That keeps the mud weight you pump downhole closer to the weight you think you have, and it keeps gas out of the pump suctions. Brandt’s DG is a vacuum vessel. An external jet pump spreads mud over internal plates, and a vacuum pump carries the gas to a vent or a flare.

Which rig it fits

Put it on a mud system that can gas-cut: a land rig or workover package drilling with a chance of gas, downstream of the shakers. The DG-10/12 flyer lists 1,000 gallons per minute on water, and a second column at 1,200 gallons per minute. Those tests are on water. Viscous, gas-cut mud will not move at that rate. The vacuum motor is 5 horsepower. The jet-pump feed for the 1,000 gallon unit is published as 1,000 gallons per minute at 75 feet of head.

How to tell it apart

A shale shaker removes cuttings. A desander and desilter remove sand and silt. The degasser is the gas step, and it does not replace those machines. The NR-13 variant is the one NOV identifies as meeting ASME pressure-vessel stamping. A standard DG-10 and an NR-13 are not the same vessel if the operator requires a stamp.

What to check before you buy

Confirm whether the skid includes the vacuum pump and the jet-pump motor, and where the gas vent goes. Match the nameplate to the 1,000 or 1,200 gallon column. Ask if you need the ASME-stamped NR-13. A degasser with nowhere safe to send the gas is not ready to rig up.

Sellers list what they have, so this exact model is not always up. Mud Systems & Tanks is where that kind of equipment is listed.
